My Story
Back in college in 2019, our class was asked to come together and figure out a table to raise funds for our end of program field trip. Of course, a bake sale is the most profitable way to raise funds. Each classmate was asked what they would bring. I listened to everyone and not one person was bringing in anything homemade. Being the extra that I am, I offered to bake, from scratch, muffins. I chose 3 flavors to bring in and made 2 dozen of each. Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, and Cranberry Walnut were the top 3 I chose to make.
At the end of the fundraiser, I brought home 1 dozen of assorted muffins with Blueberry being the top seller.
As we were cleaning up, our table was approached by an employee of the college. They asked who made the muffins. Everyone pointed to me and I shyly raised my hand. They said, "In my 60 something years on this earth, that was the best blueberry muffin I have ever had." I was shocked to say the least. I was by no means a baker. I wanted to study the surgical field. Baking, as far as it went for me, was boxed things, and that was if I was in the mood to bake something.
That interaction stayed with me for the longest time. It's a story I am so excited to tell when anyone wants to hear it.
I guess that may have been the flame that was still dormant for a while.
After graduating in 2020 with a degree in Sterile Processing, applying to and being rejected by hospitals and stand-alone practices, I didn't know what I wanted to do. I ended up getting a part time job cleaning a mom-and-pop restaurant. Two nights a week turned into 7 nights a week. I mean, I have been cleaning all my life so might as well get paid to do it right?! Christmas time comes around during my first year there and I wanted to do something nice, so I made Christmas Cookie boxes for my co-workers. Even though I barely seen them because of our shift differences, I still appreciated them and their commitment to the restaurant industry. My boss absolutely loved the cookies and told me "I think you should sell what you make. Everything you make us is so delicious."
I guess that was the ignition that I needed to awaken the dormant flame.
Today, I run a small home-based business focusing on cookies, sweet treats and sourdough. I enjoy bringing new and exciting flavors with OG cookie flavors as well.
